iPad Station

Concept for Bosch Smart Home

The project is part of the smart home initiative at Bosch Research and Technology Center in Bay Area. As intern, I created sketches, 3D models and rendering for my own concepts.

Besides being as a charging station, it is also a home monitoring device. It has a wide angle camera which overlaps with the built-in camera on iPad to increase the camera range. Once the iPad is stationed and initiated recording, video is sync with smart phone app in real time.

The industrial design is focused on form simplicity and material combination, with attention to details.

Research and Ideation

Form and material can be an important elevation for the product look. I created inspiration boards to support ideation. I explored a variety ideas in product shape and interaction via sketching.

Final Design

The finalized concept is a simple triangle form that delivers sturdiness and light weight at the same time. Its profile is made from curved lines and its material is made of wood and plastic. The shape and material add sophistication to the product appearance.
